SEC (Size Exclusion Chromatography)

Overview

SEC (Size Exclusion Chromatography) is a technique that separates molecules of interest by their molecular size. There are 2 types of SEC separation known as Gel Filtration Chromatography (uses aqueous solvents) and Gel Permeation Chromatography (uses organic solvents). Both types of SEC use a variety of different types of stationary phase. Welch Materials manufactures HPLC columns for SEC packed with 3 and 5 micron bonded silica media made for use when performing analytical Gel Filtration Chromatography. When considering analysis of proteins, biological enzymes, polypeptides, and other biologicals, Welch Xtimate® SEC gives the scientist a stationary phase tool produced from ultra-high purity stable silica bonded with hydrophilic polymer and diol functional groups. Welch Xtimate® SEC columns help eliminate secondary nonspecific sample interactions for a true sizing separation based on molecular size.

Features of Xtimate SEC column

• Ultra-high purity, stable silica bonded with hydrophilic polymer and diol functional groups for efficient sizing separation without secondary interactions.

• 3 or 5 µm silica microsphere for high separation efficiency.

• Highly reproducible resin and packed columns for easy method development and transfer.

• 5 pore sizes: 120 Å, 300 Å, 500 Å, 700 Å and 1000 Å separate a variety of molecular size (weight) ranges.
